Donald L. Heckel, 89, of Woodside Drive, Bedford, died Friday, July 6, 2012 at his residence. He was born on May 16, 1923, in Baltimore, MD, a son, of the late William A. and Lillian I. (Lindsay) Heckel. On June 1, 1947, in Baltimore, MD, he married Ruth Naomi Filbey who survives along with two sons: Norman D. Heckel, of Salvisa, KY, and, Jeffrey L. Heckel, married to the former Susan Smith of Dandridge, TN; three grandchildren, Trevor S. Heckel and wife Stephanie, of Salvisa, KY, Christie wife of Arthur Hellwig of Abbington, MD, and Lindsay wife of Matthew Clopper of Hedgesville, WV; and three Great-Grandchildren: Chase, Cole, Zachary.
He was a member of the Colonial Hills Baptist Church, and a World War II Army Veteran. He retired as a rural letter carrier.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday July 9, 2012, at 10:00 am, in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Burial at Lake View Memorial Park, in Sykesville, MD. Friends will be received on Sunday, July 8, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
