Donald “Don” J. Conover, 81, of Bedford died Monday, January 20, 2014 at Nancy’s Personal Care Home in Osterburg. He was born on October 8, 1932, in Everett, a son of the late Ross P. and Lucy A. (Hoffman) Conover. On April 16, 1955, he married June E. Miller who preceded him in death on October 8, 2007. He is survived by five daughters: Sherry L. Smith of Bedford, Sandra wife of Lonnie Whitcomb of Osterburg, Sheila L. McCoy of Bedford, Tina wife of Michael Shaffer Sr. of Bedford, Deena widow of Tom Orris of Osterburg, 10 grandchildren; Brandi, Casey, Jill, Jeanette, Amber, Ian, Michael Jr., Amy, Randy, and Isiah, 15 great grandchildren; and a sister, Iva Jean widow of Charles Wright of Everett. He was preceded in death by an infant son Terry L. Conover, five brothers: John, Willis, Harry, Paul, and Elmer Conover, one sister; Virginia Hite and his dog Josephine.
Donald was an Army veteran serving in Europe. He worked as a truck driver for Spector Freight, a mechanic and truck driver for George Transfer, and retired from Season All Freight. He also drove for other various trucking companies in the area. He was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post # 113, Moose Lodge # 480, and enjoyed playing bingo, traveling, telling stories, and he could fix just about anything.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
