Dexter J. Fowler, 75, of Hemlock Drive, Bedford, died Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Frostburg Village. He was born on February 5, 1940, in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Clyde A. and Helen Rose (Marshall) Fowler. On December 23, 1966, in Oak Hill, WV, he married Nancy (Tennant) Fowler who survives, along with the following family: a sister, Barbara wife of Dorsey Rinehart, of Lucasville, OH; two nieces Sharon Brash, of Beckley, WV and Marna Edwards, and husband Mike of Edmond, OK; two nephews, Ron Rinehart and wife Cheryl, of Mineford, OH, and Kenny Brash, of Mt. Hope, WV; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and a brother-in-law Jerry Tennant and wife Barbara, of Oak Hill, WV. He was preceded in death by a sister Delores Brash and her husband Jim, and a nephew John Brash, all of Beckley, WV.
Dexter was a lifetime member of the Bedford Elks Lodge #1707, lifetime member of Oak Hill/Collins High School Alumni Association, and a member of West Virginia University Alumni Association. He was a member of PCI, PCAP, ASHE, and AWWA. After graduation with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from WVU, he worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways, and Capitol Cement Company. In 1970, he began working for New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. For several years he was Vice-President and General Manager of Kenvil Newcrete/NES&L Co, in New Jersey. Later he served in the same capacity at the plant in Roaring Spring until his retirement in 2005. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and West Virginia.
Dexter enjoyed playing golf, horse racing, and was an avid WVU Mountaineer football, and basketball fan. Of course we can’t forget his beautiful collection of clowns. “Poppy Dexter” will be greatly missed by all the little children who adored him and whom he adored and many young people who thought so much of him. Lastly, but not least, he will be greatly missed by his loving wife Nancy, relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 12:00 p.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Doug Friant, officiating. Friends will be received a half hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
