Della J. Gates

Della Jane Gates, 87, of, Osterburg, died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home. She was born on January 19, 1926, in Rainsburg, a daughter of the late Harvey and Olive (Johnson) Hook. On April 8, 1944, in Imler, she married Lewis C. Gates who preceded her in death on June 8, 1996.  She is survived by three daughters:  Mary Jane wife of Gerald E. Springard of Monroe Twp, NJ, Violet wife of Joe Dunn of Schellsburg, Ruth wife of Ken Miller of New Paris, five sons; David married to the former Marla Kessler of Duncannon, Earl married to the former Connie Wallace of Mechanicsburg, Robert married to the former Louise Shelley of Middletown, Jeff Gates of Washington, DC, and Dale married to the former Stephanie Lashinsky of Osterburg, 20 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one sister, Hilda Eaton of Bedford. She was preceded in death by:  two sons:  Alan widow Betty Donnelly of Dillsburg, and Terry, one grandson Anthony, two brothers Walter and Herman and, four sisters Lena, Rozella, Wilda, and Frances

Della was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church, and worked as a Waitress at Chilcoats in East Freedom.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and doing puzzles.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Daniel Oldham officiating.  Burial at Horn Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, at the funeral home. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, Inc., in Bedford.  In  lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be sent in Della’s name to the Spina Bifida Association of Western Pennsylvania, 1158 Dutilh Road, Mars, PA 16046.  Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.  .
