It is with deep sorrow and immense love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, D. Jean (Fyfe) Lehman who left us peacefully on October 8, 2026 at the age of 89 into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jean lived a life defined by compassion, faith, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her home was always warm and welcoming—filled with laughter and comfort. A smile was always waiting at the door, and her kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born and raised in Sidman, Jean graduated from Adams-Summerhill High School (now known as Forest Hills High School), and later earned her nursing degree through Conemaugh School of Nursing. Though she never formally pursued a nursing career, the heart of a nurse lived in her every day. She lovingly cared for her late husband through his health struggles, tended selflessly to her parents after retirement, and offered comfort and care to her family throughout her life.
Jean was a Teachers Aide at New Paris Elementary for several years. She enjoyed working with the teachers and students immensely and often spoke about that experience decades later. She was later employed for 30 years at Hedstrom, where her dedication and work ethic were admired by all.
Jean was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She never missed a chance to attend a grandchild’s sporting event, dance recital, or simply sitting with a grandchild sharing stories and snacks, she was present with her whole heart. She supported each grandchild wholeheartedly—encouraging their dreams, cheering on their careers, and always expressing her pride with a warm hug or a kind word. She had immense joy in celebrating their accomplishments. Her joy was never greater than when surrounded by her family.
Jean was a woman of quiet resilience, surviving a life-threatening aortic dissection in Nov. 2019, nearly 7 years ago, lovingly cared for by her children during her recovery.
She was deeply rooted in her faith and found joy and community in her church. One of her favorite summer past times was the family picnics and holiday gatherings that were filled with laughter, memories, and love.
Jean was the heart of our family—never speaking a negative word, always finding the good in every situation, and offering love without condition. Her legacy of kindness, humility, and faith lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and all who were touched by her gentle spirit. She is survived by her four children: Connie (Greg) Hawkins, H. Kevin (Brenda) Lehman, Kimberly (Allen) Livingston, and Laurie (Brad) Criswell; five grandchildren: Dr. Kevin (Melynne Sciranko) Livingston, Angelique (Josh Brown) Lehman, Keeley (David Schwartz) Criswell, Mackenzie (Sam) Loney, and Camden (Jaelynn Namenwirth) Criswell; and four great-grandchildren: Kohen and Elodie Loney, and Alexander and Priscilla Livingston. Jean’s family will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband: Herbert Lehman; her parents: James and Dorothy Fyfe; 4 brothers: William Fyfe, Donald Fyfe, James Fyfe, and Robert Fyfe; and a very special aunt: Connie Smith.
A very special thank you to Rev. Dan Oldham for his encouragement, his faith, and the way he has always reminded mom to keep trusting God. His words, his prayers, and his example meant more to mom and this family than he may ever know. And a special thank you to a wonderful friend, Nelda Meyers, thank you for all those times you were simply there for mom.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church with Rev. Dan Oldham officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
