Cletus W. Burkett

January 6, 1925 — May 13, 1914

Cletus Wayne Burkett, 89, of Alleghany Road, Manns Choice, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. He was born on January 6, 1925, in Buffalo Mills, a son of the late George and Edith (Riser) Burkett. On July 29, 1949, in Cumberland, MD, he married Sara Francis (Cavan) Burkett who preceded him in death on November 7, 1994. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by four brothers:  Otto, Hobert, Orville, and Fuller Burkett, five sisters:  Verona Elliott, Leota Nofsker, Neva Smeak, Erdie Clites, and Olive Shoyer.

Cletus was a member of the Manns Choice United Methodist Church and graduated from the Schellsburg High School, Class of 1943.  He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad (Con Rail) where he retired in November of 1987.  He also worked at Pittsburgh Plate & Glass and the Glidden Home Paint Store.  After his retirement from ConRail and living in Altoona for 39 years, he moved back to Manns Choice.  He was a member of the RSVP at Altoona Hospital, volunteered at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital for 9 years, a member of the Senior Citizen Center in Manns Choice. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed deer, rabbit and pheasant hunting.  Cletus will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and community.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Mark Griffith officiating.  Burial at Milligans Cove Christian Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Thursday, from 6 - 8 p.m. and on Friday 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Cletus’s name to Manns Choice United Methodist Church, 762 Quaker Valley Road, New Paris, PA 15554.  Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
