Clair E. Smith, 95, of Imlertown Road, Bedford, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home. He was born on December 19, 1917, in Bedford, a son of the late George W. and Ada Myrtle (Smith) Smith. On March 13, 1937, in Cumberland, MD, he married Bertha Foor who survives along with three daughters: Ladonna Yoder, of Rockford, OH, Velma “Hobby” Oravec, and husband James of Everett, and Sandra Clark, wife of Robert of Altoona; a son, Roger Smith of Bedford; twelve grandchildren: Rona, Steven, Renee, Jackie, Todd, Tara, Diana, Mark, Rob, Danielle, Daniel, and Steven; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Norman Smith, a daughter, Judy Smith, one sister, Helen Claar, and five brothers: Chester, Clarence, Harold, Earl, and Williard Smith.
Clair was of the Protestant Faith, and retired from Motor Freight Express at the age of 78. He enjoyed hunting and bird watching, and was a jack of all trades.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Steven Egbert officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
