Charlotte G. Lowry

Charlotte G. Lowry, 88 of Chester, VA, formerly of Bedford, died on Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Crossings Assisted Living Center, in Chester, VA.  She was born in Bedford, on June 3, 1924, a daughter of the Late George V. and Elva (Leach) Gardner.  On February 25, 1947 in Bedford, she married William C. Lowry Jr., and he preceded her in death on December 12, 1995.  She is survived by two sons: William J. Lowry married to the former Lillian Nesbitt of Chesterfield, VA and Todd M. Lowry married to the former Judy Diehl of Mechanicsville, VA, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandsons.  She was preceded in death by one brother, John (Jack) Gardner.

She was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford for many years and also a member of Saint Anne’s Catholic Church of Bethany Beach, DE.  Charlotte was a 1942 graduate of Bedford High School and worked for several years as a secretary at Penn Economy Oil Company and for 29 years she was part owner with her husband of Lowry’s IGA Foodliner also in Bedford.  Charlotte enjoyed being a homemaker and gardening, and was a member of the Bedford County Garden Club for many years.

Funeral services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.  There will be a memorial mass held at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford at a later date.  Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Charlotte’s memory to St. Thomas Catholic Church, 215 East Penn Street, Bedford, PA 15522 or to a charity of your choice.  Arrangements by Timothy A.
