Charles Ross Sellers, 95 of North Richard St., Bedford and more recently of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, died Thursday July 12, 2007 at Bon Secours Hospital in Altoona. He was born December 30, 1911 in Bedford TWP, s son of the late Allen Ross Sellers and Nellie Mae (Imler) Sellers. On October 25, 1935 he married Emma Elizabeth Smith who preceded him in death on December 29, 1996 ending a union of 61 years. He is survived by one daughter, Saundra (Sellers) Koontz of Bedford and two grandchildren, Kerin (Koontz) Horton, wife of William Horton and Richard Koontz Jr. both of Bedford. He also is survived by two great grandchildren, Shawn R. Koontz, husband of Kelsey (Nouse) and Amanda Horton and one great great grandson, Kai Richard Koontz. Mr. Sellers is also survived by numorus nieces and nephews. He was the last member of his family having been preceded in death by three brothers: John, Orville and Ray Sellers, two sisters: Laura Semanek and Maude Beatty and a son-in-law Richard C. Koontz.
Mr. Sellers had many friends, having worked as a salesman for Blackburn Russell Co. in the Bedford Area for 30 years and retiring in 1975. Upon retirement, the Sellers’ spent their winters in Florida, first in Vero Beach and later in Ft. Myers. He was an avid golfer and found friends wherever he went. He served in the Navy during World War II, which he was fond of reminiscing about in his later years. He continued to operate and work at Sellers Tree Farm until he was in his 90’s. He took great pleasure in growing and selling Christmas trees. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and served as deacon and treasurer of the church for many years.
Funeral services: Monday 11:00 am in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Paul E. Claycomb officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park.
