Charles W. Griffin, 88, of Ross Drive, Bedford, died peacefully, Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home, with his family by his side. He was born November 30, 1923 in Flinton, son of the late Joseph T. and Margaret ( Barnhart) Griffin. On November 8, 1944 in Cairnbrook, he married Jane Weicht, and she survives along with a son Roger W. Griffin, married to the former Rebecca Snavely of Everett. Also surviving are two grandchildren; Todd Griffin and wife Debra of Washington, and Amber Bennett, of Cannonsburg, two great grandchildren; Mackenzie Griffin and Rex Bennett, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Charles “Terry” Griffin, husband of Donna Griffin of Washington, three brothers; Frank, Joseph Jr., and Albert Griffin, three sisters; Margaret Black, Marion Krassnoski, and Verna Yingling-Fish.
Mr. Griffin was a self-employed truck driver, prior to that had driven for B&P Motor Express. He had also worked as a coal miner in Central City and had managed the former Mobil station at the entrance of Shawnee Park. He was a member of the Everett United Methodist Church, a member of Teamsters Trucking Union #453 and was a former member of the Bedford Elks Club. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He loved being with his grandchildren, fishing, camping, golf, and spending many winters in Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Rev. Robert Strozyk officiating. Burial at the Everett Cemetery. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the funeral home.
