Catherine E. (Waksmonski) Matulnes

November 8, 1928 — January 5, 2018

Catherine E. Matulnes, 89, formerly of Bedford, now living in League City, Texas passed away peacefully at Tomball Regional Hospital in Tomball, TX, on Friday, January 5, 2018. She was born on November 8, 1928 in Coupon, PA, a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Squashic) Waksmonski. On May 16, 1950 in Altoona, she married James Edward Matulnes and he preceded her in death on December 6, 2015.  She is survived by a two sons: Jeffrey J. Matulnes and wife Patricia, of Magnolia, TX, and Michael J. Matulnes and wife Kae, of League City, TX;  three grandchildren:  Bryan Matulnes, of Dallas, TX, Brent Matulnes of Houston TX, and Brittinee (Matulnes) Christopher and husband John of, League City,TX.  Four great grandchildren, Taryn, Madyson, Gavyn and Luke Braedon one brother John Waksmonski, of Altoona, PA, and a sister Anna Waksmonski Tiernan of Holidaysburg, PA. She was preceded in death by a sister Rose Marie Holland and brother-in-law Bernie Holland and a brother-in-law Deacon John Tiernan.

Catherine was employed by the Pentagon in Washington, DC and was also the executive secretary for The Easter Seals Society of Bedford County for 13 years. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford and former member of the church choir, sodality, Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers. Catherine enjoyed playing bridge, reading, arts and crafts, sports, music, stained glass, travel, gardening and visiting with her children and grandchildren in Texas. She also enjoyed her snow bird friends in Destin, FL. and was a member of The Red Hat Society in FL. Peace and Love to Everyone.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January, 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at the St. Thomas Catholic Church, in Bedford, with Father Richard Tomkosky Celebrant.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Tuesday at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford from 10:00 a.m., until the departure for the Catholic Church.
