Carol L. (Lee) Bowman

February 4, 1934 — May 8, 2016

Carol L. Bowman, 82, of Bedford, died Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital. She was born on February 4, 1934, in Roaring Spring, a daughter of the late Clifford Charles and Mary Mathilde (Dauler) Lee. On January 29, 1971 in Bedford she married Bill E. Bowman, and he preceded her in death on February 11, 2007.  She is survived by a daughter, Marina G. Link, widow of Gary, of Bedford, a son Mark G. Bollman, married to the former Christina L. Smith of Bedford; two step-daughters, Andrea D. Mathias and husband Eugene of Havre De Grace, MD, Cynthia Jo Lee, and husband Daniel of Perrysville, MD; three grandchildren:  Shannon Link, Marc Bollman, and Evan Link all of Bedford; four step-grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter,  Hali Link;  and one step-great grandchild.

Carol graduated from Bedford High School in 1951.  She then attended George Washington University, in Washington D.C., Interamerican University in Saltillo, Mexico, and Dickinson College in Carlisle.  She received a B.A. in English and a M.Ed. in Secondary Counseling from The Pennsylvania State University.  Carol was the Foreign Language and English Teacher at Bedford High School from 1965 until her retirement in 1999.  She also worked as an operator and supervisor for the United Telephone Company. She was a Real Estate Salesperson and Associate Broker for West Real Estate Agency in Bedford, and most recently a PBX Operator at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort.  She was a member of St. John’s UCC Church, Bedford Springs Chapter #41, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Bedford Business and Professional Woman’s Club.  She held many positions throughout the years at the local and state levels, with the BPW including: President, Parliamentarian, Historian, Newsletter Editor, Corresponding Secretary, Education & Services Fund Chair, Membership Committee, Foundation Finance Committee, and Public Relation Chair.  She was a member of NEA-R, PASR, and Bedford County PASR.  Carol was a Charter Member of Bedford Assembly # 46, Order of the Rainbow for Girls, was on the Advisory Board, and a past Mother Advisor.

The funeral service and visitation times will be private. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.
