Carleton T. "Carl" Tate, 73, of Wayne Blvd, Alum Bank, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at UPMC Altoona Regional Hospital. He was born on August 9, 1940, in Washington D.C., a son of Thomas Tate, surviving of Arizona and the late Irene "GiGi" (Catterton) Tate. He is survived by two sons: William R. “Billy” Tate and wife Rosalie, of Falling Waters, WV, and James E. “Jim” Tate and wife Lily, of Iowa City, IA; a step-son Richard Morton and wife Deborah of Sanford, NC; and a step-daughter, Sherry Morton of Tyson Corner, VA; four grandchildren: Kaitlyn Marie, Nina Karissa, Ayrnn Rose, and Rebekah Marie; one sister, Bonnie Miller, of Fife Lake, MI, and his beloved dog Freddie.
Carl served in the Navy, and retired from Reagan International Airport, after 20 years, as a Steam Plant Engineer. He was a life member and former Adjutant, and Post Commander of the Bedford American Legion Post #113, life member of Pleasantville VFW Post #219, a member of the Fort Bedford Honor Guard, Fleet Reserve, and USS Macon Association. He was an avid movie collector.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013, at 1:00 p.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
