Carl D. Wilson

Carl D. “Brig” Wilson 76 of Preston St., Bedford, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born November 22, 1934 in Bedford, son of the late Harry H. and Hazel Marie (Smith) Wilson.  On June 1, 1957 in Bedford, he married Rose Marie Wolfhope and she preceded him in death on July 19, 2006.  He is survived by five children; Geri wife of Randy Clark of Jefferson Hills, Stephen Wilson of Bedford, Barbara wife of Randy Flood of Chambersburg, Carla wife of John Beemiller, and Karen wife of Jonathan Holler, both of Bedford.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; Andrew and Nathan Clark, Travis and Tanner Wilson, Brandi, Brittany and Chad Flood, Joshua, Jeremy and Cara Beemiller and Olivia and Lea Holler, two brothers; Francis H. Wilson and wife Mary of Bedford and Clair W. Wilson and wife Shirley of Somerset and a sister, Margaret E. Rose of Bedford.

Carl was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.  He was also a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge #480 and a 51 years member of Bedford Fire Department, where he served as assistant chief for many years. He was a 1952 graduate of Bedford High School and worked for PPG Industries Inc, retiring October of 1987.  After retirement he worked part time for Bedford Fire Equipment, Thomas Chevrolet and Berkebile Funeral Home.  He enjoyed volunteering with the fire dept., horse racing, gardening, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford with Father Donald Dusza celebrant.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park.  Friends will be received on Friday from 4-9 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 4:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church, 215 E.
