Carl Jerome Murray (aka Mert) of Bedford, PA, went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Country Meadows Retirement Center in Mechanicsburg, PA. He was born Carl Jerome Murray on December 3, 1935, to Rebecca and John Murray in Pleasant Unity, PA.
Carl graduated from Latrobe High School where he met his wife, Joan Reeping. They were married for 59 years and had 5 children. Carl enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from High School where he attended aircraft maintenance training. Carl was a Lead Mechanic/Manager for Eastern Airlines, World Airways and Gemini Airways, while also establishing his own business, Potomac Aircraft Maintenance. He loved working with his hands and was a kind, patient, generous man. The kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help others in need.
He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Joan, his brothers, John and Harry Murray, and sister, Lois Zuzack.
He is survived by his children, Barbara (David) Arnett, Carl Jeffrey (Robin) Murray, Veronica (George) Forbes, Cathleen (Brian) Pessolano, Patrick (Matthew) Murray. Carl had 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren who he loved dearly. He also will miss his faithful dog, Penny, who never left his side.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 5-7:00 pm at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Bedford, with Father Richard Tomkosky, Celebrant. A luncheon will be held at the American Legion in Bedford at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be sent to your own personal charity in honor of Carl Murray.
