Carl E. Mason

Carl Edward Mason, 83, of Oppenheimer Road, Bedford, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at St. Paul's Nursing Home in Greenville.  He was born on August 19, 1928, in Hyndman, a son of the late John and Frieda E. (Hosselrode) Mason.  On July 2, 1950 in Bedford, he married Flora M. (Claycomb) Mason, and she preceded him in death on May 6, 2009.  He is survived by four children;  Jerry C. Mason of Wonderlake, IL; Ronda, wife of William Leitch of Howland, OH; Ann, wife of Jeffrey Flowers of Oakmont, and  Barbara, wife of John Ford of Etters; 12 grandchildren: John Maxwell Mason, Andrea Mason, Margaret wife of J.C. Christensen, Patrick Leitch and wife Joanna, Natalie wife of Chad Kohler, Shawn, Benjamin, Grace and Hayley Flowers, Paige, Victoria, and John Ford, eleven great grandchildren, and one sister, Grace, wife of John Emerick of Hyndman.

Carl worked in the water well drilling industry for over 40 years working at Sanderson Cyclone Drilling Company in Orrville, OH and Baroid out of Houston, TX. Carl was a world renowned expert in the field traveling all over the world helping to resolve issues on water well drilling sites.  Carl developed techniques and equipment to improve the success rate for drillers.  Over the years, Carl taught thousands of seminars and conducted field demonstrations across the United States, Canada and Africa.

Carl was a life member of the National Ground Water Association, PA Ground Water Association and numerous ground water organizations in the northeast United States.  He was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church, and a life member of the Grange.  He had a love of farming and the outdoors.

Funeral Services: Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bedford Presbyterian Church, with Thalia Fleetwood officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Carl's name, to the Pennsylvania Ground Water Association Scholarship Program, Pennsylvania Ground Water Association, Inc., 3320 Marengo Road, Port Matilda, PA 16870.
