Bradley R. “Brad” Koontz, 71, of Bedford, died on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at his residence. He was born on February 17, 1954 in Bedford, a son of the late Maynard “Butch” and Ruth (Stiffler) Koontz. On June 9, 1973, he married Jacqueline J. (Casteel) Koontz and she preceded him in death on May 14, 2021. He is survived by a son: Eric Koontz and wife Ashley of Atlanta, GA; a daughter: Amy Koontz and husband Jason Gonzalez of Arlington, VA; four grandchildren: Maggie and Bradley Koontz, Ella and Ethan Gonzalez; and a sister: Diane Lemley-Tegeler.
Brad was a graduate of Bedford High School and worked at Thomas Chevrolet for approximately 40 years, including many years as a sales manager. He loved his colleagues and took great pride in helping customers find the right car, often turning a simple purchase into a lasting friendship. Brad loved the town of Bedford and enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends. He was also an avid animal lover, taking in and rescuing many stray cats over the years. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 12 p.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford. Friends will be received on Friday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions in Brad’s name to the Bedford County Humane Society, 182 Bohn Road, Bedford, PA 15522.
