Birdie A. De Laney

Birdie A. De Laney 90, of Lincoln Highway, Bedford died Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Altoona Hospital.  She was born April 28, 1918 in Bedford, daughter of the late James V. and Rita (Johnson) Aveni.  On May 23, 1946 in Cumberland, MD she married Leslie E. De Laney and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1967.

She is survived by three children: Beatrino wife of Harold Richardson of Sequim, WA, Dr. Page W. De Laney married to the former Sharon Howsare of Bedford and Sandra L. De Laney of Falls Church,Va., seven grandchildren, Harold Richardson Jr. Tracey Laurion, Heidi Gordon, Dr. Page De Laney II, Dr. Leslie De Laney, Lisa Varner and Nikole Lowe.

10 great grandchildren and one brother James V. Aveni married to the former Patricia Turner of Amarillo, TX and one nephew James Aveni Jr.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Pearl Harris and a great grandson.

Mrs. De Laney was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford and owned and operated Leslie’s Exclusive Fashions until her retirement.

Funeral Mass: Monday 11:00 A.M. from St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford with Father Donald Dusza celebrant.  Burial at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may make contributions to St. Thomas Catholic School, 215 E.
