Biagio “Bill” Bozzo formerly of Bedford, died on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at his residence in Altoona. He was born on June 9, 1928 in Grindstone, PA a son of immigrant parents Edward Bozzo of Campagnano di Roma, Italy and Margaret Marchie Bozzo of Warsaw, Poland. On July 5, 1952 he married Lois Neus of Pittsburgh, PA, who survives along with the following children: Susan married to Victor Curfman, Altoona, PA, William married to Brenda Bordson, New Orleans, LA and Linda married to Ralph Carland, Altoona PA, six grandchildren: David, Kathryn, and Alyson Bordson-Bozzo, New Orleans, LA; Brian and Lindsay Carland and Christopher Curfman, Altoona.
Bill graduated from Redstone Twp. High School in Republic, PA in 1945, and was an Army Medical Corp veteran of World War II. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He became a registered Medical Technologist and Nuclear Medicine Technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He worked as a Medical Technologist at Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh from 1948-1951. Early in 1951 he was the second employee hired by Memorial Hospital of Bedford County. In his forty plus years of employment as a laboratory supervisor he set up, or helped set up the following departments: Clinical Laboratory, Nuclear Medicine Laboratory, EKG and Stress Testing Department, Blood Gas and Pulmonary Function Laboratory, Nuclear Imaging Laboratory and Auditory Department. In 1993, he received the Benjamin Rush Award from the Bedford County Medical Society for Outstanding Health Services to the citizens of Bedford County. On November 11, 2001, the 50th anniversary of Memorial Hospital of Bedford County, they recognized Bill as the representative employee of the 1st 50 years. He was a founder of the Bedford County Credit Union. He served as an assistant Cub Scout Master and Weblos leader for Boy Scout Troop 81 of Bedford. He was a basic and advanced Red Cross First Aid instructor, and a licensed pilot who served as a 1st lieutenant in the Bedford Unit of the Civil Air Patrol. He was an avid hunter, golfer, bowler and life member of the Bedford Elks Lodge #1707 and the Buccinese Club of Altoona where he participated in the Senior Bocce League. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister and other capacities. He was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus in Altoona PA.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford with Father Donald Dusza Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Timothy A.
