Betty Jean (Wallace) Wood

Betty Jean Wood, 94, of Bedford, died on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard. She was born on February 2, 1931 in Dalton, GA, a daughter of the late Coogler D. and Kathleen (Taff) Wallace. On April 25, 1947 in Dalton, GA, she married James "Bill" William Wood Jr. and he preceded her in death on March 27, 2006.  She is survived by the following family, two daughters:  Anna Belle Sellers and husband Gary of Bedford; and Jeanie Long and husband Carl of Reading; two sons:  David Wood of TX, and Phillip Wood and wife Gloria of Schellsburg; seven grandchildren:  Kathryn Couch and husband Brad, Michael Sellers and wife Roni, Courtney Leydig and husband Blair, Carl Long, Melissa Rojas and husband Nathan, Tiffany Webber and husband Anthony, and Dalton Wood and wife Autumn; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by one son, James “Jim” William Wood III widow Kathy of Bedford, one grandson, James “JW” William Wood IV, and a sister, Barbara Blackburn.

Betty moved to Bedford from Alabama with her husband and children in 1960 after her husband’s company Continental Trailways shut their bus terminal down.  While living in Bedford Betty worked for Maurices Department Store and then later Kline Furniture.  She enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash, making rugs, and quilts, cross stitching, crossword puzzles and loved watching Jeopardy. The family is grateful for the loving care Betty received from Colonial Courtyard and Gentiva Hospice.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Rev. Dan Oldham officiating.  Burial will be private.  Friends will be received on Thursday from 10:30 -12 p.m.  at the funeral home.
