Betty J. Thompson, 93, of Bedford, died on Monday, November 10, 2025 at Bedford Post Acute. She was born on August 28, 1932 in Bedford, a daughter of the late Sara (Robinette) Calhoun and Charles Calhoun. 70 years ago at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford she married Carl Thompson and he survives along with two children: Sharon Telmanik of Bedford and Wayne Thompson of Schellsburg; five grandchildren: Bryan Detwiler and wife Sandy of Roaring Spring, Dana Sill and husband Jeff of Naples, FL, Marsha Blue and husband Rick of Johnstown, Misti Claycomb and husband Stewart of Imler, and Holly Dick and husband Cameron of Altoona; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen L. Shippey, and a son, Joseph E. Thompson.
She worked at the K&M Restaurant in downtown Bedford for over 50 years and while working there she graduated from the Altoona Beauty School and worked for home nursing for a short time. She was a member of Bedford Church of the Brethren and enjoyed cooking and talking with people.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Rebecca Zeek officiating. Burial at St. James Lutheran Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Friday one hour prior to the service.
