Bessie L. McRoberts, 100, of Cumberland Road, Bedford, went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2014, at her residence. She was born on June 15, 1913, in Logan, WV, a daughter of the late Emanuel W. and Martha J. (Adkins) Milam. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Henry Sprouse, and Thomas McRoberts. She is survived by the following family: two daughters: Clistie widow of Robert Swartz, of Bedford and Carole wife of David Hite, of Bedford; six grandchildren: Allen, Andrea, Deb, Jeff, Kevin, and Becky; 14 great-grandchildren: Serena, Kyla, Brandon, Katelyn, Jeremy, Jennifer, Brittany, Dan, Jesse, Bradley, Rachel, Ethan, Amanda, and Chelsea; 8 great-great grandchildren: Quentin, Lanie, Judah, Brooklyn, Hannah, Caylee, Allie, and Devin; and a brother Jim Milam of Columbus, OH; she raised two girls in her home, Elena and Julie. She was preceded in death by a son Eugene; three sisters: Virginia, Louise, and Mabel; and four brothers: Paul, Otto, Charles, and Russell.
Bessie was a member of the Manns Choice Church of God. She worked as a waitress at the Bedford Springs Hotel, and was a loving, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Richard Whetstone, and Rev. Chris Faylor, officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Pall Bearers will be Jeremy Hite, Dan Swartz, Jesse Swartz, Doug Suter, Brandon LoShavio, and Bradley Swartz.
