Bertha L. Smith

Bertha L. Smith, 94, of Bedford, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home.  She was born on January 11, 1921, in Six Mile Run, a daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Blanche (Swope) Foor.  On March 13, 1937 in Cumberland, MD, she married Clair E. Smith, who preceded her in death on February 24, 2013.  She is survived by three daughters: LaDonna Yoder, of Rockford, OH, Velma “Hobby” Oravec, wife of James, of Everett, and Sandra Clark, wife of Robert, of Altoona; a son, Roger Smith, of Bedford; twelve grandchildren: Rona, Steven, Renee, Jackie, Todd, Tara, Diana, Mark, Rob, Danielle, Daniel, and Steven; 24 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mabel Steele, of Bedford.  She was preceded in death by a son, Norman Smith, widow Sara surviving of Bedford, a daughter, Judy Smith, seven sisters: Shirley Foor, Maizie Grahams, Stella Conrath, Lottie Houck, Dorothy Lingenfelter, Grace Sigler, and Jean Perdew, four brothers: Denver, Wilbert, Seibert, and Roy Foor, and an infant brother James Foor.

Bertha was a housewife raising six children in her home, and worked outside the home cooking and cleaning.  She was of the Protestant Faith, liked to sing, and go dancing with her husband.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Steven Egbert officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park.  Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com
