Benjamin F. Ollman Jr.

Benjamin Franklin Ollman Jr., 97, of Colonial Courtyard, Bedford, formerly of Ellenton, FL., and Southhampton, PA, died Monday, July 28, 2014 at UPMC Bedford.  Mr. Ollman was born on May 23, 1917, in Rockford, IL, a son of the late Benjamin F. Ollman Sr., and Loretta Ruth (Walker) Ollman. On August 31, 1940, he married Maxine Frances (Pendergast) Ollman, who preceded him in death on January 6, 2010.

Mr. Ollman is survived by three sons: David F. Ollman, husband of Daphne Dixon, of Alum Bank, PA; John E. Ollman, husband of Anne Hammond, of Philadelphia, PA, and Stonington, ME; and Richard B. Ollman, husband of Mary Carr, of Center Valley, PA, and Charleston, SC; Also surviving are five grandchildren; David B. Ollman, of Hamilton, NC; Edward D. (Ted) Ollman, of Alum Bank, PA; Lauren Ollman, of Bethlehem, PA; Kathryn Riordan, of Valley Cottage, NY; and Alexandria Fox of Evanston, IL; three great-grandchildren who were the delight of his recent years; Margaret (Maggie) Riordan, Rudolph (Rudy) Riordan, and Edward (Eddie) Vonley Ollman. Also surviving are a niece, Mary Uhe Unverferth, of Burbank, CA, and a nephew, Robert Uhe, of Chicago, IL. Mr. Ollman was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Ollman Uhe.

Mr. Ollman was a graduate of Beloit College, Class of 1939 where he was a member of the Alpha-Theta Chapter of the Sigma Pi Fraternity He was a metallurgist specializing in high-temperature alloy castings in the steel industry before retiring to Florida where he volunteered for church and charitable events. He was an avid golfer and tennis player and an expert Bridge player. Playing Bingo was a favorite pastime. He was proud to serve as a marshal for Senior Professional Golf Association tour events held in Florida.

Mr. Ollman was a member of the Mt. Union United Methodist Church in Lovely. Before moving to Bedford, he was a member of the Ellenton United Methodist Church in Ellenton, FL.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Les Hutchins, officiating.   Our Online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com
