Arlo G. Greer

August 9, 1917 — September 7, 2008

Arlo G. Greer, 91, of Bedford, died Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home.  He was born on August 9, 1917 in Joy, IL, a son of the late Allen H. and the Myrtle (Graham) Greer.  On January 3, 1942 in Monticello, MO, He married Evelyn (Craft) Greer and she preceded him in death on May 31 2006 that ended a marriage of 64 years. He is survived by a daughter, Gwendolyn E. widow of John A. Ray of Bedford, two grandsons: Darin E Greer of S. Windsor, CT. and Damon A. Greer, of E. Windsor, CT.; two great grandsons: Dante and Damien Greer of S. Windsor, CT., He was preceded in death by two granddaughters:  Rhonda Lynne & Holly C. Ray, one son Dewain husband of Dianne of S. Windsor CT., a son-in-law, John A. Ray,  a sister, Myrtis Wood-Smullen, and a  brother, Carroll Greer.

After high school Arlo worked with his father in the Aedo, IL area, painting houses, barns, and other structures.  Shortly thereafter, his love and interest of artwork/illustrations took him to Chicago, IL. starting at the Vogue Wright Studios, in Rock Island, Il.  He and his family moved to Takoma Park, MD in 1947, where he worked for the Review & Herald Publishing Co., for several years, having a number of paintings published.  He then freelanced in N.Y. briefly before returning to the D.C. and VA areas.  He also had several paintings published when he worked for the Copper-Trent, Inc. in VA.  Subsequently he started his own art firm of Associated Illustrators, Inc.  In 1997 he and his wife retired and moved to Bedford.

He was affiliated with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Everett.
