Arch J. Stewart

Arch J. Stewart, 79, of Bedford, died Friday, December 23, 2005 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home.  He was born on February 27, 1926 in Penn Run, A son of the late Archibald F. and Gaynelle A. (Henry) Stewart. He is survived by one brother James R. Stewart of Mechanicsburg, 2 nephews Scott M. Stewart and wife Beth, of Dillsburg, and Daniel M. Stewart of New York City. Two nieces Kristen F. wife of Stephen Kreckman and, Amy Stewart-Himes and husband David both of Sinking Spring, one great niece, three great nephews, many cousins and great neighbors and hosts of former choir members and students. He was preceded in death by a great niece.

He was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church in Bedford, a graduate of Indiana High School class of 1943. He received a bachelor’s degree in music Education from IUP and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Colorado. He was a 50 year member of Hyndman lodge No. 589 F&AM, 32 degree member of Harrisburg Consistory A.A.S.R., Scottish Rite, member of the Presbyterian Assoc. of musicians (PAM) and certified church musician (C.C.M.) Presbyterian Church (USA).  He was a music teacher for Bedford Area School District, organist /choir director for Bedford Presbyterian Church, he did some private piano and vocal coaching, and was music director of 14 musicals for the Bedford High School Chorus.  He also served in the Navy during WWII.

Funeral Services: Wednesday December 28, 2005 at 11:00 AM from the Bedford Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Douglas Friant officiating burial at Harmony Cemetery in Penn Run, Pa. There will be no visitation. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Home Nursing Agency 127 Hospital Drive, Everett, Pa. 15537, or the Bedford Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 7, Bedford, Pa. 15522.  Arrangements by Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
