Anna Mary (Smith) Whitford

Anna Mary Whitford 80, of Buffalo Mills, formerly of Bedford, died on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Harmony House, in Giestown.  She was born on March 11, 1937, in Bedford, a daughter of the late D. Raymond and Marguerite (Beckley) Smith.  On August 25, 1986 she married John R. Renfrew Jr., who preceded her in death on November 13, 1999.  She then married her second husband Donald G. Whitford, on November 19, 2004, and he survives along with a sister, Betty Lou Richardson, and husband Odell of Troy, OH; two step daughters; Rebecca A. Miller, of Somerset, and Donna J. Housel and husband Ben, of Buffalo Mills; and two step-sons: Robert J. Renfrew, of Brunswick, ME, and Glenn A. Whitford, of Buffalo Mills.

Anna graduated from Bedford High School class of 1955, and Juniata College in 1960.  She then attended the Lutheran Deaconess School, Consecrated Lutheran Sister, and received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania.  Anna worked for Lutheran Social Services for 37 years in Philadelphia, Lebanon and Lancaster Counties, Allegheny Lutheran Social Services, and Allegheny Synod. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and served with Trinity, as her last ministry, for over 7 years. She then served as a lay pastor with Christ Lutheran Church in Madley.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at the Christ Lutheran Church, in Madley, with Pastor Ryan Viands officiating.  Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.
