Alverta M. (Price) Koontz

February 13, 1928 — February 28, 2017

Alverta M. Koontz, 89, of Everett, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.  She was born on February 13, 1928 in Clearville, a daughter of the late Daniel and Jessie (Mearkle) Price.  She married Robert C. Koontz on May 22, 1946. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2008.  She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie K. Elbin wife of Robert J. of Bedford; six grandchildren: Cara J. Mills and husband Jeff, of Everett, Kelly S. Waugerman and husband Scott, of Bedford, Robert J. Elbin III, of Fayetteville, AR, Kyle C. Elbin and wife Marcie, of Ephrata, Kurt A. Elbin and wife Jaclyn, of Richmond, VA, and Danae McCarthy and husband Eric, of Avon OH;   six great-grandchildren: Jordan Mills, Reece Waugerman, Drew Elbin, Alexander Elbin, Stella McCarthy, and Juliet Elbin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son: Gary L. Koontz; three brothers: Clyde, Veryl, and Merle Price; and three sisters: Faye Beck, Maxine England, and her twin sister, Alvera Diehl.

Alverta left home at a young age and started working by cleaning houses, and then Lions Manufacturing for many years.  She then decided to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of Cosmetology Art in Johnstown where she was the oldest in her class, and graduated with honors. After graduation, she operated her own beauty shop out of her house in Everett for 40+ years.  Alverta was one of the founding members of the Everett Church of God and was a Sunday School Teacher, and part of the Ladies Prayer Group.  She enjoyed shopping and preparing holiday meals for her family.  Most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Mark Dillow officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park.  Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
