Allen E. Newkirk 67, of Hollidaysburg, died Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at his residence. He was born on May 7, 1956 in Altoona, a son of the late Robert W. and Mary G. (Johnson) Newkirk. He is survived by three children: Wayne Newkirk, of Hollidaysburg, Michelle Hess widow of Brian, of Bedford, and Kayla Redding and husband Michael, of Oakland, NE; and eight grandchildren: Gavin Daugherty, Bryson Newkirk, Clayden Newkirk, Dakota Hess and wife Shellbe, Krysta Hess and husband Kane, Brittany Hess, Killian Redding, and Reilly Redding.
Allen was a 1974 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School. He spent most of his career as a truck driver, traversing the roads with various companies. His commitment was evident in the countless miles he logged and destinations he reached. His stubbornness, a quality that defined him, was matched only by his work ethic. Family was important to Allen, although his path sometimes led him astray. Yet, in the twilight of his life, he made a genuine effort to bridge the gaps and reconnect with his children. The time he spent with them before his passing was a testament to his love and the desire to make amends. Those cherished moments will forever hold a special place in their hearts, reminding them of the healing power of forgiveness and the importance of family bonds. Among Allen’s many talents were his remarkable skill as a square dance caller, bringing joy and laughter to all who joined him on the dance floor and leaving an enduring legacy. He also enjoyed watching football, riding his motorcycle, hunting, and fishing. Allen had an affinity for collecting eagles, symbolic of his own spirit—majestic, proud, and soaring high above. May we remember his perseverance, his tireless work ethic, and his courageous attempt to mend fractured relationships. Let us honor his love for football, the thrill of the open road, the serenity of nature, the beauty of eagles, and the joy he brought through square dancing. As we bid him farewell, may we find solace in the knowledge that he has found eternal rest.
