Alice J. “Babes” (Fleegle) Short, 79, of Bomont Spring Drive, New Paris, died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at her residence. She was born on August 5, 1934, in Manns Choice, a daughter of the late Clinton and Helen Marie (Funk) Fleegle. On July 13, 1975, in Bedford, she married H. Max Short who survives along with the following family: four daughters Nancy Woods, widow of William, of Bedford, Jane Stiffler, widow of Charles, of Bedford, Sandra wife of Rob Rouzer, of Roaring Spring, and Priscilla Haines of Somerset; a son Rusty Foor and wife Sharon of Everett; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a step-son, Steve Short and wife Marie of Greenville, OH; three step-daughters: Elaine, wife of Mike Wolf of West Milton, OH, Lynn Kuhnle, of Union, OH, and Gale, wife of Toby Vertz of Kansas City, KS; 10 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Polly Wambaugh of Beldon, and, Linda Romani of Duncan, SC; and a brother Paul Fleegle, and wife Betty, of York. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Ralph and Victor “Bud” Fleegle, and three sisters: Jeannie Smith, Janet Stufft, and Mary Lois Hogan.
Alice enjoyed collecting antiques, and worked as a private dealer for Fenton Glass when she lived in Ohio. She was a member of the secret sisters at the Pine Grove Church.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Les Hutchins Jr. officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
