Grover F. Rose 78, of Egolf Road Bedford, and most recently the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital in Altoona. He was born on March 12, 1925 in Friends Cove, a son of the late Arthur and Ora (Robinette) Rose. On August 3, 1949 in Petersburg, WV, he married Ruth Virginia Kimble, and she preceded him in death on July 1, 1992. He is survived by the following family, 3 sons: Bill married to the former Sherry Lamborn, Dale married to the former Kathy Fickes, Mark married to the former Denys Newberry all of Bedford, 2 daughters, Sharon wife of Steven Clapper of Bedford and Mary Louise Hillegass of Alum Bank. 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 4 sisters: Irma Black, Ada Palmer, Helen Getz, and Marie Ritchey, 2 brothers: Harold and Plummer Rose, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters Cora, Mary, Mildred and Evelyn, 1 brother Hubert and a 1-step son Delmas (Jim) Kimble.
Mr. Rose was an active member of the Trans Run United Methodist Church for 47 years. He served in France and Switzerland during WWII as a sergeant in the Army. He was very active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was Post Commander for the Bedford VFW Post #7527, a member of the International Association of Machinists, and Aero Space workers. Mr. Rose worked as a mechanic for Eastern Express and was self-employed as a Carpenter and Mason. He enjoyed hunting, driving, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with his family.
Funeral Services: Saturday, March 15, 2003, at 1:00 PM, from the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with the Pastor Jeff LeCrone and Pastor Robert Hinrichsen officiating. Burial in Woods Church Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, at the funeral home.
