George J. Bronder, 83, of East Watson St., Bedford, PA died Sunday April 20, 2003 at his residence. He was born on November 4, 1919 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Gregory G. and Otillia (Lenk) Bronder. On July 22, 1950 in Winchester, VA he married Margaret “Peggy” Martens and she survives along with one daughter, Stephanie Bronder, wife of Charles A. Fagan III of Ligonier and Bedford, 3 step grandchildren: Charles A. Fagan IV, Lisa Fagan Yost and James K.E. Fagan, a brother Arthur J. Bronder, and wife Barbara of Pittsburgh, 2 sisters: Irma Bronder of Washington, DC and Kathleen Marston of South Carolina, numerous nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law, David A. Martens and wife Jane of Washington, MI. He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 3 sisters.
Mr. Bronder was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford, a former member of Teutonia Maennerchor of Pittsburgh, Young Republicans of Bethel Park, Pittsburgh Industrial Management Club, and Rolling Rock Hunt and was also an avid horseman and woodworker. He retired in 1979 from Jones & Laughlin Steel-LTV after 40 years of service. He was a World War II Navy Veteran.
Funeral Mass: Thursday 10:00 AM from St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford with Father Raymond G. Crosser officiating. Burial at 1:00 PM at the Ligonier Valley Cemetery in Ligonier, PA. Friends will be received on Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford where a vigil service will be held at 8:00 PM by Rev. Frank Schuette. Following the graveside service friends will also be received from 2-4 PM on Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter at 416 Franklin St, Ligonier. Those wishing may make contributions to St. Thomas Catholic Church, Bedford, or Saint Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, PA.
