Vera V. (Swartzwelder) Nave

Vera V. Nave 98, of Friends Cove, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home.  She was born on January 2, 1919 in Breezewood, a daughter of the late Harry and Elsie (Lane) Swartzwelder Sr.  On August 17, 1937 in Cumberland, MD she married Glen K. “Murf” Nave, who preceded her in death on February 18, 1982.  She is survived by the following family: a daughter June Shanklin and husband Robert, of Columbia KY, a son Lee Nave and wife Pat, of Breezewood, a son Harry Nave and companion Cathy, of Breezewood, a son Jack Nave and wife Sandy, of Boise, ID, a daughter Elsie Sipes and husband Gary, of Everett, a son Kenneth Nave and wife Susan, of Everett, a son Joe Nave and wife Dawn, of Bedford, a daughter Alma Nave and wife Hope, of Glen Allen, VA, and a son Duke Nave and fiancée Lisa, of Bedford; 27 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters: Edna Swartzwelder, of Breezewood, Ada Clark widow of Don, of Breezewood, Ruth Clark widow of Bun, of Everett, Ora Foor and husband Gary, of Everett, and two brothers: Harry Swartzwelder Jr., and wife Nancy of Everett, and Robert Swartzwelder, and wife Linda, of Breezewood; a special niece Polly Steele, many nieces and nephews, and numerous family who adopted her as a mother throughout the years.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolly, a grandson Tommy, a granddaughter, Bobbi Jo, a daughter-in-law, Sarah Nave, a son-in-law, Glen Grove, a great-granddaughter Cora, a great-great-grandson, Kylen, three sisters: Grace, Cora, and Mary; and a brother: Blair Swartzwelder.

Vera was a member of the Trans Run Methodist Church and the Breezewood Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed gambling, playing bingo, and loved her children, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Paul Claycomb officiating.  Burial at Woods Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Monday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions in Vera’s name to: Breezewood Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, 150 Municipal Road, Breezewood, PA 15533; or Raystown Ambulance Service, 4 E.
