Velma G. (Hillegass) Waugerman

Velma G. Waugerman 98, of Bedford, formerly of Buffalo Mills, died Friday, July 5, 2019 at the home of her daughter.  She was born on September 28, 1920 in Juniata Township, a daughter of the late Blair and Mary (Sheirer) Hillegass.  On August 7, 1940 in Cumberland, MD, she married Roy E. Waugerman, who was killed in action May 1, 1945 in WWII.  She is survived by the following family: a daughter Donna Geisler, widow of Warren, of Bedford; and daughter-in-law Susie Waugerman, widow of Gary; five grandchildren: Greg Geisler and wife Trina, of Bedford, Pam Schrift and husband Darryl, of Reading, Scott Waugerman and wife Kelly, of Bedford, Steve Waugerman and wife Kristy, of Evansville, IN, and Marcy Herzog, of Altoona; seven great-grandchildren: Mike and Michele Schrift, Jeff and Steven Geisler, Reece, Kaden, and Kendal Waugerman, six great-great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Noah, Austin, Aiden, Gavin, and Addison, and two step-great-grandchildren: Chance and Ashton. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary; and son-in-law, Warren; five brothers: Adam, Andrew, Frank, Douglas, and infant Edgar Hillegass; and longtime friend and companion, Earl “Squire” Holler.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Velma worked at the Kay-Wood Plant for many years before opening her own beauty shop from which she retired in 1985.  She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Hyndman VFW Woman’s Auxiliary.  Velma was a very loving mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Evangelical Church, 7139 Hyndman Road, Buffalo Mills, with Rev. Pr. Ryan Viands officiating.  Burial at Madley Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Monday, from 6-8 p.m., at the Timothy A.
