Ruth E. (Bayer) Karns 75, of Bedford, went to be home with the Lord on Friday, October 11, 2019 at her residence. She was born on July 5, 1944 in Roaring Spring a daughter of the late John W. Bayer Sr. and Grace E. (Barrett) Bayer Keeney. She is survived by the following family: a daughter Pamela (Ickes) Beals and husband Rholand, of Bedford, a daughter Karla (Ickes) Kidd and husband Ronald “Pat”, of Buffalo Mills, a daughter Lorna (Ickes) Pfitzenmayer, of Stringtown, a son Ernest Ickes and companion Star, of Sharpsburg, MD, and a daughter Lora (Ickes) Johnson, of Bedford; nine grandchildren: Jessica Barnett, Shandi Hargett, Keri Sue Pfitzenmayer, Austin O’Baker, Niki Kidd, Ernest Ickes Jr., Katie Musselman, Kristi Beegle, and Taylor Fox; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Susan Barton and husband Bill, of Bedford, and a brother Daniel Bayer, of North Ft. Myers, FL. She was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Nichole Zimmerman and Rebecca Ickes, and a brother John W. Bayer Jr., and widow Vicki (Riley) Bayer, surviving of Oak Island, NC.
Ruth was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ, and the Bedford Lioness Club. She volunteered at the Bedford Middle School office, and enjoyed reading and catalog shopping. Most of all she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and loved them all unconditionally. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Brady Plummer officiating.
