Robert G. Salathe Jr., 90, of Cumberland, MD, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 30, 2019 at Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland, MD. He was born on August 8, 1929, in Washington, PA, a son of the late Robert G. and Elma (McComb) Salathe Sr. On September 5, 2014, in Bedford, he married Judith (Redwine) Salathe who survives along with the following family: two daughters, Laurie Ann Salathe of New Paris; Suzanne Steinbrunner and husband Karl of Bedford; son, Robert G. Salathe III and companion Jeanie Bernhard of Bedford, PA; two step-daughters, Amanda Redwine and wife Antoinette of Chicago, IL; Mary Kay Cunningham and husband Mickey of Baltimore, MD; a step-son, Richard Dailey of NC; four grandchildren: Gretchen Steinbrunner of New York, NY; Jeremiah Steinbrunner of Exton, PA; Robert G. Salathe IV of York, PA; and Kael Clugston of Chicago, IL; many step-grandchildren; and many step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives: Ann "Wimp" (Hollis) Salathe, and Mary Martha Dailey, and two brothers: James and John Salathe.
Bob was a member, Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder, at the Bedford Presbyterian Church and also a member, elder, and served on the finance committee, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Cumberland, MD. Bob graduated from Camp Hill High School and Penn State University with a degree in Business Administration. He stayed very connected with Penn State through the Alumni and attending Football games “WE ARE”. Bob was the owner of Bedford Valley Petroleum and always thought of his employees like family. He was the former president of Bedford Borough Council, a member of Flickers, Rotary, and the Bedford Masonic Lodge #320. Bob had a passion for golf and was proud to shoot a round of golf the same number as his age. Bob never met a stranger and the world was a better place because he was in it.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bedford Presbyterian Church, in Bedford, with Thalia Fleetwood officiating. Burial will be private. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
