Paul I. Detwiler Jr.

Paul I. Detwiler Jr., 85, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2018, with his family by his side.  He was born on September 15, 1933, in New Enterprise, a son of the late Paul I. and C. Elisabeth (Johnson) Detwiler Sr. He attended Replogle and Bedford High School and Mercersburg Academy. He then attended and graduated from Gettysburg College, where he met his future wife of 61 years, Patricia Buffett.  They married on October 5, 1957, and spent two years in France where their first child was born.  They moved to Meadowbrook Terrace and have resided there ever since.  Along with his wife he is survived by the following family: a son, Paul Detwiler III and wife Sandy, of Everett, a son, Steve Detwiler and wife Gina, of Buffalo, NY, a daughter, Joann Bull and husband Robert, of Pennington, NJ, a daughter, Jennifer Delong and husband Jim, of Bedford,  and a son, Jeff  Detwiler and wife Erin, of Lancaster,  17 grandchildren:  Carolyn Speicher and husband Jeremy, Jessica, Paul IV, Danielle, Dominique, Samantha, Alyssa, Miranda, Thomas, Griffin, Brennan, Chase, Colette, Ella, Kai, Miles, Luka; two great grandchildren,  Damien and Alanna;  one sister, Dorothea Nelson; and three nieces survive him.

Paul was an owner of New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc. and worked there for over 55 years. He loved his work and spending time in the quarries, and was a very dedicated owner who always focused on growing the company.   He was a Captain, in the U.S. Air Force, and a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church. He was involved in the Bedford Rotary Club, Bedford Masonic Lodge # 320 F&AM, Shriners, Bedford Elks Lodge # 1107, Flickers, and a board Member at Everett Cash Mutual.  Paul’s love for his family was evident in many ways. 

Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bedford Presbyterian Church, P.O.
