George E. Cassel 90, of Bedford, died with his loving wife of 66 years at his side on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.  He was born on January 25, 1927 in Shippensburg, the son of the late Russell F. and Lillie (Myers) Cassel.  On December 10, 1950 in Fayetteville, he married Woneva A. (Leeper) Cassel, who survives along with two daughters: Christine Smith and husband Adam, of Bedford, and Peggy Bentley and husband Craig, of San Diego, CA; and three grandchildren: Luke Smith and wife Meghan of Seattle, WA, Faith Bentley and Chance Bentley both of San Diego CA and one great grandson Seamus Smith. 

George was a 1944 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the Army Counter Intelligence Core. George then graduated from Penn State University in 1950. He worked as regional manager for Central Chemical Corp. and retired as regional manager of Lebanon Chemical Corp.  He was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church, where he held numerous offices from Trustee to Financial Secretary, and was also a Sunday School Teacher. George was a member and Past Master, Past High Priest and Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Council of Bedford Lodge #320 F&AM.  He was a life member of the Bedford Elks Lodge #1707, Bedford American Legion #113, RSVP, and served as director and treasurer of the Penn State Club of Bedford County.

George was an avid golfer and good friend. He was a warm, open-hearted and friendly man who loved his family. He enjoyed meeting people and most remember him with a wonderful smile on his face.
