Debra “Deb” F. Tweedie, 64, of Bedford, died on September 10, 2018, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, in Pittsburgh. She was born on January 16, 1954, in Indiana, a daughter of the late Robert W. and Maxine (Porter) Davis. On July 26, 1997, in Bedford, she married James Lee Tweedie who survives along with the following family: two daughters, Jessica Davis (Foreman) Condron and husband Michael, of Oakmont; Rebecca Lee (Foreman) Wilson, of Bedford; five grandchildren: Madeleine, Michael, Mason, Riley, and Connor; a brother, Robert Christopher Davis, of Altoona; a sister, Kimberly Davis Shoemaker, of Bedford; sister-in-law, Christina Davis, of Greenville, sister-in-law, Mary Anne Tweedie and husband James Morgan, of Schellsburg, and a brother-in-law, Kip Tweedie and wife Cindy Cutting, of Townsend, TN; one nephew, Nathan Shoemaker; and three nieces: Taylor Shoemaker, Nisha and Shawna Davis.
Deb was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University and her Master’s degree in Reading, from Frostburg University. She retired as an elementary school teacher from Bedford Area School District in 2013. She worked for the Bedford School District from 1976-2004 as a Title I Reading Teacher, and from 2004-2013 as a 3rd grade teacher. She was also a Title I Reading Coordinator from 1985-2006. She held additional positions in the school district that included Technology Support Teacher, Bedford Primary Head Teacher Team Member, and Instructional Support Teacher. After retirement, she volunteered at Your Safe Haven as a Survivor’s Advocate. Some of her achievements included being one of twelve finalists for 2006 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year, also Alpha Alpha Women of Distinction Award in 2006, Bedford Gazette Educator of the Month, Bedford Garden Club Garden of the Month in June 2006, and Keystone Technology Integrator Award in 2010. While Deb cherished many things, her heart and soul encompassed her passion for education, devotion to her garden, and treasured moments with her grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by her family, loved ones, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bedford Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Jack Miller officiating. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.
