Connie L. “Gram” Smith 74, of Bedford, died Monday, May 6, 2019 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. She was born on January 12, 1945 in New Paris, a daughter of the late Regis and Alice (Ferguson) Miller. She is survived by the following family: a son, Glenn Smith and wife Bea, of Bedford; two daughters: Christina Bollman and husband Mark, and Stacey Simmons and husband James, all of Bedford; five grandchildren: Kristopher Whetstone, Dusti Howsare, Shanda Diehl, Kirstie Taylor, and Marc Bollman; seven great-grandchildren: Bennett, Koen, Kash, Xavier, Brody, Whiautt, and Waylon; a sister, Faye Imler and husband Richard, of Pulaski, and her sweet sidekick Harley.
Connie retired from Bedford County Communications as a 911 dispatcher, where she took part in countless rescues and was praised for her calm demeanor and calm voice in the most stressful situations. Gram was a devoted single mother who had many talents and accomplishments such as: great cook, talented artist, poet, copyrighted songwriter, and master of crocheting. She loved country music, politics, fishing, and gathering with family for picnics. Her greatest gifts were her terrific sense of humor, being kind and giving to family, friends, and anyone she came across whom she could help. Gram was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Lay Minister Jim Miller officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
