Blaine R. Berkebile, 103, of Bedford, died on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard. He was born on August 26, 1916, in Johnstown, a son of the late Clarence J. and Mary (Mintmier) Berkebile. On June 12, 1943, in Winchester, VA, he married Lavade “Scooter” (Parks) Berkebile who preceded him in death on December 22, 2000. He is survived by two sons: Ric Berkebile and wife Jane of Bedford and Tim Berkebile and wife Cindy also of Bedford. Four grandchildren: Jocelyn Swanick and husband Bill of Huntersville, NC, Mark Berkebile and wife Susan of Chambersburg, Aaron Berkebile and wife Amber of Bedford, and Leah Lybarger and husband Dustin also of Bedford, a step-granddaughter, Misty Black of Saxton, five great grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren and one step-great-great grandson, and one sister-in-law, Carol Henry of Bedford. Blaine was preceded in death by one sister Catherine Berkebile and two daughters-in-law: Mary Ann and Lynne Berkebile.
Blaine was a graduate of Johnstown High School. He worked as a salesperson with Page Bedding Company out of Johnstown, and then became co-owner and then owner of Berkebile Furniture Store in Bedford. After the store closed he worked part-time selling cars at Shaffer Motors in Cessna, drove Pony Express truck for Owens of Illinois, and worked with his son and grandson at the funeral home for many years.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 5:00 p.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Burial at Bedford Cemetery will be private. Friends will be received on Sunday from 1 - 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Those wishing may make contributions to the Bedford Fire Dept., P.O.
