Annabel S. Wakefield

Annabel S. Wakefield, 92 of Friends Cove, died Wednesday September 6, 2019 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home.  She was born on April 16, 1927 in Colerain Township a daughter of the late Walter C. and Mae (Shoemaker) Shaffer.  On December 11, 1946 at the Zion United Church of Christ, in Rainsburg, she married John M. Wakefield, who preceded her in death on October 24, 1986.  She is survived by two sons: Thomas Wakefield and wife Cathy, and James Wakefield and wife Beverly, both of Bedford; a daughter, Kimberly Arnold and husband David, also of Bedford; four grandchildren: Scott Wakefield and wife Kelly, Betsy Clark, J.T. Wakefield, and wife Skyler, and Thad Wakefield; four great-grandchildren: Lane, Addie, Nash, and Quinn Wakefield; and a cousin, Nancy wife of Rev. Paul Claycomb.  She was preceded in death by a brother John Shaffer and his wife Dorothy (Deist) Shaffer.

Annabel was a 1945 graduate of Bedford High School. She owned and operated the family dairy farm with her husband. She was a member and church leader of the friendship circle at the Friends Cove United Church of Christ.  She was a member of the Bedford Hospital Auxillary and 50 plus year member of the Eastern Star and the Charlesville grange, state level grange and national level grange.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at the Friends Cove United Church of Christ, with Rev. Dr. William Shrout and Rev. Paul Claycomb officiating.  Burial at the church cemetery.  Friends will be received on Friday, from 10:00 a.m., until the hour of the service at the church.  Arrangements by the Timothy A.
