Alma Madalene (Geiser) Koontz

Alma Madalene Koontz 92, of Bedford, died peacefully Sunday, September 8, 2019 with her family by her side.  She was born on January 25, 1927 in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Clemens A. and Alma G. (Hanitsch) Geiser.  On September 4, 1948 in Cumberland, MD she married Robert A. Koontz who preceded her in death on March 23, 1995.  She is survived by the following family: a son David Koontz married to the former Pamela Hoffman, of Bedford a daughter Kathryn Mole and husband Louis, of Penn Laird, VA, a son Richard Koontz married to the former Patricia Tiffany, of Mechanicsburg, and a son Michael Koontz married to the former Claudia Rojas, of San Leandro, CA; eight grandchildren: Eric Koontz and partner Fran, Jennifer Helmick and husband Gerald, Shawn Mole and wife Regan Blackwood, Beth Mole and husband Morgan Chapman, Jason Koontz and wife Stephanie, Tiffany Koontz, Lauren Heater and husband William, and Richelle Koontz; and eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two brothers: Clemons and Harold Geiser; and two sisters: Dolores McCleester and Elizabeth Dillon.

Alma was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church.  She retired as a cook from Richland High School, and prior to that was a bookkeeper for American Stores, and the U.S. Naval Department.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2310 Bedford Street, Johnstown, with Father David Peles Celebrant.  Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, in Johnstown.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions in Alma’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
