After a lengthy illness, Wade Anthony Popelish of Bedford, transitioned to a gentler existence on March 26, 2024, missing his 65th birthday by only a few days. He was born March 28, 1959, to John and Mary (Weber) Popelish, both of whom preceded him in passing. Wade is survived by seven siblings, Constance Popelish and partner Michael Olwyler of North Fork, California; John and wife Donna (Wayda) Popelish of Waynesboro, Virginia; Linda Popelish of Jamestown, New Mexico; Rita Popelish of Bedford, Pennsylvania; Mark and wife Debra (Kairis) Popelish of Bedford, Pennsylvania; Joseph and wife Brenda (Dively) Popelish of Bedford, Pennsylvania; and Mary Beegle of Bedford, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, steps, and cousins.
Wade was a graduate of Bedford High School Class of 1977, where he excelled in sports and set several track records. He went on to become a licensed insurance producer, serving clients of AAI Insurance in Bedford for many years. He was a quiet and kind individual who enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and playing guitar. Wade had special affection for dogs, and he will be sadly missed by his many pet friends in the area. Following in his father’s footsteps as a true artisan, Wade was known for handcrafted knives and other Native American inspired items. He was an avid Etsy vendor and a popular attendee at Powwows, Knife Shows, and Knap-Ins across the region. Wade had comprehensive knowledge of historic bottles, which he collected with dad, and they attended bottle shows together. Wades’ family extends special thanks to his wonderful neighbors at Arrowhead Acres and to the care team at Family Hospice.
At Wade’s request, there will be no public memorial service. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. Family and friends who wish to make a donation in his memory are welcome to assist the Bedford County Humane Society, Abby’s Angels Animal Haven, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Disabled American Veterans – charitable organizations Wade himself supported.
