Roy T. “Pappy” Way Jr., 85, of Fishertown, died Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. He was born on October 30, 1930, in Fishertown, a son of the late Roy T. and Lillie (Miller) Way. On April 26, 1980, in Bedford, he married Virginia (Springer) Way, who survives along with the following family: two daughters, Vickie Sellers and husband Joe of Bedford; Kitty Dertinger and Fiancé  Will Ellis of Hollidaysburg; a son, Tom Way married to the former Hilda Koontz of Bedford; step-son, Ron Springer married to the former Nancy Holler of Bedford; seven grandchildren:  Kevin, Jeremy, Kim, Rusty, Julie, Vanessa, and Tommy; seven great-grandchildren: Kyle, Aidan, Connor, Keyan, Olivia, Chase, and Emma;  two sisters, Laura Corle and husband Warren,  of Imler; and Mary Henderson and husband Bud of Osterburg; .  He was preceded in death by four brothers: John, Clair, Samuel, and Ivan Way; five sisters:  Grace Claycomb, Olive Long, Ruth Callihan, Betty Whisel, and Beatrice Minehart.

Roy was a member of the Orthodox Friends Meeting in Fishertown. He served in the Army during the Korean War.  He was stationed in France, Germany, Japan and Korea. Roy was a past commander of the Bedford American Legion Post 113 and the Pleasantville VFW.  He also served as a chaplain of the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Roy worked for Lane Metal for 29 years and retired as plant manager.  Pappy loved trapping, fishing, and attending the American Legion baseball games.  He enjoyed reading and playing the guitar and was in the Spring Valley Boys Band.  Virginia and Pappy loved to travel and visited all the US states but two. He loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford with Rev. Dan Oldham officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm, at the funeral home.
