Lewis J. “Jim” Locke 80, of Bedford, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 19, 2016, at his residence. He was born on June 15, 1936 in Orbisonia, a son of the late Lewis and Mabel (Black) Locke. On April 20, 1974 in Bedford, he married Jerri (Jay) Locke, who survives along with the following family: a daughter, Amber L. Berkebile, wife of Aaron, of Bedford, a son Kristopher L. Locke, of Taylors, SC; and two granddaughters: Paige and Madison Howard. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert K. Locke.
Jim served in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1959, earning an honorable discharge at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Prior to that he earned his solo pilot license and was an active student pilot. He worked at Fairfoot Shoe Company in the design department and then worked construction in various cities in the northern Virginia area. Jim was a truck driver for Wilson Freight, Maryland Transportation, Halls Transport, and was an owner/operator for Hittman Transport. He was a member and Sunday School teacher at the Everett Church of God, and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, reading, model cars, and riding motorcycles. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family, and granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. William Kisner officiating. Burial will be private. Friends will be received on Monday, from 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
