Charles E. Fleegle

Charles E. Fleegle, 90, of Bedford, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 6, 1926, in Bedford, a son of the late William J. “Billy” and Elizabeth (Ferguson) Fleegle. On October 25, 1952, in Pottsville, he married Mary (Capik) Fleegle who survives along with the following family: a son, Charles J. Fleegle of Bedford, a son, Richard G. Fleegle married to the former Nora Knox, of Hollidaysburg, a daughter, JoAnne Bortz and husband Jeffry of Bedford; a son, David E. Fleegle married to the former Vickie Davis, of Bedford; seven grandchildren:  Amy Fleegle of Bedford, Charles J. Fleegle of Bedford, Christopher Fleegle and wife Haley, of Hollidaysburg, Mary Beth Foor and husband Adam, of Hollidaysburg, Gregg Feaster and wife Stacey, of Bedford, Aliza Baker and husband Dan, of Bedford, Jesse Feaster and wife Natalie, of Lemoyne; two step-grandchildren:  Brandee and Becky Bortz; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Fleegle and wife Kathleen, of Bedford, and a sister, Dolly Whysong and husband Leon, of Bedford.  He was preceded in death by four sisters:  Mary Ellen Ferguson, Edith Smith, Sara Nicodemus, and, Florene Schnably.

Charles was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950 -1952 and then four years in the reserves.  He retired after 39 years with Kelly Springfield Tire in Cumberland.  Charles was a Jack of all trades and enjoyed helping his kids and grandchildren. He was a member and past commander of the Bedford American Legion Post # 113, and a 3rd degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Charles and his wife traveled to a lot of the different states and enjoyed camping. They shared 64 years of marriage together. He had a strong love for his God, Family and Country, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford, with Father Richard Tomkosky Celebrant, Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Monday, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
