Carla L. Crabtree, 60 of Bedford, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016, at her home.  She was born on February 2, 1956 in Everett, a daughter of the late Richard E “Gene” and Wanda R. (Minnick) Koontz.  On August 2, 1980, she married Dean A. Crabtree who survives along with four children: a son, Mark Crabtree, a daughter, Elizabeth Lafferty, and husband Stephen, a son, Ryan “Bill” Crabtree, and a daughter, Laura Crabtree, all of Bedford, and two grandchildren: Hannah Zack, and Jase Lafferty.

Carla was a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1974, Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, DE, and the Somerset Nursing Program.  She worked as a nurse in Harrisburg, Bedford, and Cumberland.  Although Carla was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease in 2000 she never allowed it to prevent her from enjoying life.  She loved to travel, spend time with her family, and participate in worship and activities at the Everett Church of the Brethren where she was a faithful member.  She especially enjoyed her adventures with her “sister” Jennie Ramirez and her weekly outings with her dear friends Peggy Goss, and Brenda Timoney.  Carla had a kind, gentle, and loving spirit.  She was known for the cards she sent, her hugs, and for always telling those she encountered how much she loved them.

Family and Friends will be received on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 4-8 p.m., at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.  Funeral Services will be held private.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may make contributions in Carla’s memory to: Huntington’s  Disease Youth Organization, 17 N.
