Brenda J. Varner 64, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on April 25, 1952 in Bedford, a daughter of the late William H. and Beatrice M. (Batzel) Cook.  On April 11, 1975 in West Virginia she married Ardell R. Varner who preceded her in death on September 15, 2009.  She is survived by two sons: Thomas W. Cook of Bedford, and Robert A. Varner, and fiancée Cathleen Whitfield Showalter of Manns Choice; two grandchildren: Cassondra Varner and Kyler Varner; six sisters: Irma Greenawalt, whom Brenda resided with, Patricia and husband Eugene Jay, Linda and husband Raymond Dixon, Peggy and husband Richard Stone, Bonnie Baughman and companion Dennis Hill, and Ethel and husband Ronald King; a brother Harry Cook and wife Cindy, many nieces and nephews; and her dog Fluffy.

Brenda enjoyed playing bingo, cards, crocheting, fishing, and being active outdoors.  Like her mother she had a heart of gold and found great joy in helping other people. Brenda had an ornery side, and loved to joke around and have a good laugh. Most of all she loved both of her sons, and grandchildren, and will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Lenny Gates officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday, from 10:00 until the hour of the service.  Arrangements by the Timothy A.
