Betty Lee Frederick, 92, of Everett, formerly of Bedford, died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at her residence. She was born on September 19, 1924, in Schellsburg, a daughter of the late Homer and Vera (Hillegass) Hillegas. On July 26, 1944, in Schellsburg, she married Vance E. Frederick who preceded her in death on September 11, 1988. She is survived by the following family: a son, Keith Frederick and wife Barbara, of Springwater, NY, a son, Alan Frederick and wife Lois, of Bedford, a daughter, Elaine Barfield and husband Ray, of Bedford, and a son, Kevin Frederick and wife Jacqueline of Bedford; eight grandchildren: Kathy Moran, Kent Frederick, Trevor Frederick, Christina Frederick, Eric Barfield, Ian Frederick, Tyler Frederick and Adam Frederick; 10 great grandchildren: Julia, Tommy, Emma, Owen, Dylan, Carter, Kieran, Lydia Declan, and Harper; one brother Harry Hillegas and wife Joyce, of Minneapolis, MN; one sister Ellen Lamison and husband David, of Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by two brothers:  Dale and Gene Hillegas, and a sister Edna Mae "Susie" McDowell.

Betty graduated from Napier High School in Schellsburg and then from a business school in York. She was a very devout Christian and active member of the Trinity UCC in Friends Cove, where she taught Sunday school and communion class. She and her husband owned and operated their own dairy farm raising Jersey Cattle.  Betty Lee and her husband took numerous trips to Channel Island of Jersey, where the Jersey cattle were originally bred, visiting with their close friends Stewart and Rosemary Mourant.  Later she took a couple of trips to the Holy Land.  She loved living at Homewood at Springhouse Estates, and became close with the friendly and courteous staff.  While living there she was involved with making prayer shawls, numerous committees and resident activities, as well as R.S.V.P. 

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford with Pastor Janet Sell officiating.  Burial at Woods Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Sunday, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.   Those wishing can make memorial contributions in Betty Lee’s name to Trinity UCC c/o Charlotte Schaeffer, 5921 Main Road, Bedford, PA 15522.
